It is going to be a great year!!!!

Well, the first week is over and I am very tired! It is so weird to me that things just pick back up and it feels like you never left...

I have a great group of kids this year! I am so excited. =)  I have a great group of boys. It is kind of strange. I really like it though.

We are starting a new reading assessment this year. Actually, we are starting two. We are leaving TPRI and going to ISIP, which is an online assessment. We will see how that turns out. That will be three times a year. We are switching from Rigby to DRA2 for leveling our students in reading. We are going to be getting some good in depth information from this new assessment. I think it will be a great tool.

I was feeling really good after school today and I knew I wanted to start testing my kids with the DRA next week, so I stayed late today. I don't think I will have many days where I stay that late (6:30 yeesh) this year. It was good though. I like quiet time at school. Plus, I am all ready to start assessing on Monday.

I had to choose which levels I needed to use. It is really just a guess from their levels at the end of last year. Then I had to print off the papers that go with each book. I had to take those down to the copier and copy the correct amount for each level. I have a pretty spread out group: Level 8 to Level 38. Fun!

I wanted to be able to share the levels and fluency scores with parents every six weeks like I did last year, so I created this form.
DRA Levels to Send Home Sheet1 We assess at the beginning of the year and at the end of every six weeks. I will use this to show their level and write in their fluency. It will look like a bar graph. It is a great visual for the kids to see their progress.

Meet the Teacher Monday

I am joining up for some Blog Hoppin' fun!

Tell me a little something about you:

How long have you been teaching?

This will be my 4th year. I graduated in 2008 and wasn't able to find a teaching job. I worked for Head Start before I was hired at Levelland ABC to teach Pre-K. My husband and I moved back to our hometown last summer and I started working in the school district where we graduated. This will be my second year in second grade.

You might not know...

I was Color Gaurd captain my junior and senior year of high school. My husband was a Drum Major his junior and senior year of high school. We loved being a part of the band!

What are you looking most forward to this school year?

I am excited about introducing all sorts of new technology to my students. We are going to be working with all sorts things this year.

What do you need to improve?

I need to work on my writing instruction. I have a hard time teaching the mechanics of writing. I will be working on that this year.

What teaching supplies can you not live without?

Post-it notes, flair pens, purple pens, Promethean board, and my iMac!

Back to School

This is how I am going to present and review our rules. It is just a jumping off point. I haven't written down all my procedures, so just remember that. I love this new tool! (Well new to me!)

Last Classroom Update

Hello! This will be my last classroom update because school starts on Monday! It's a little hard to believe it is already here. We had a porch party at school tonight. Just a night before school starts to come bring school supplies and see your new teacher. I didn't many kids come, but that's ok. I will see them on Monday.

The first pictures are my table right beside my door. I have my attendance clipboard ready to go. I am going to use this to keep a paper record of absences and tardies. I think it will help me to remember to put it in the computer before 10:00am. (I am really bad about that.)

These are my markers to mark their folders with their spot on our clip chart at the end of the day. I have them labeled and I am really excited about how quick I am going to be able to do this every day.

These are the papers I had out for the porch party. I will be sending home the papers with all the kids who didn't come tonight. I love the magnets! (Great idea if I do say so myself!)

The last update I made was a rolling cart. I am very excited about this. I snagged the cart from our "free" area. The area where teachers put the things they don't want any more. The stand I had before didn't work that well. I really like the cart because I can move it out of the way if I need to.
