I have copied these on colored paper. Girls have red and boys have blue. |
You can download the pdf HERE or email me for the ppt version.
The front inside pocket will have these labels:
You can download the pdf HERE or email me for the word document. I printed them on Avery 5160 address labels.
Then I will make them baggies to hold pencils and other materials. They are quick and easy. I saw the idea on Pinterest, where else? Just add duck tape or masking tape to the side of a sandwich bag, hole punch, and insert into the binder.
My principal buys planners/calendar journals for all students grades 3-5 at our school. I have added those to the front of their binders.
Under that will be notebook paper for homework assignments.
Next are job applications and rent agreements for our classroom economy. I will be doing a comprehensive post about my economy this week. These papers will be turned in later in the week.
Behind the divider are individual copies of SuperSpeed 1000 and SuperSpeed Math. You can download the eBooks with instructions and pages to print at Whole Brain Teaching. We will be practicing both of these almost daily and students will need them to do their homework.
Our weekly newsletter, district calendar, Bonus Opportunities, Fines, Spelling activities, and 40 Book Requirement pages are in page protectors at the back.

I compiled these from others I found on the internet. Click HERE to download. |

This was inspired by The Book Whisperer by Donalyn Miller. Click HERE to download. |
Students will hole punch and add a folder to the back of their binder for graded papers. On the outside of the folder we will put these labels.

Love the 40 book requirement inspired by the book whisperer! I totally might use that after I see my student's levels. Not sure about having my low ones read 9 chapter books. Keep posting, you have such great ideas!
AWESOME job on these binders!! Thank you so much for sharing! :)
Wow, wow, wow! Love, love, love! I've seen similar ideas for binders, but they were geared more for the lower grades, this one is fantastic for the upper primary/middle school age kiddies. The acronym STAR says it all for me, especially for the older ones! Keep up the fantastic work and thanks for sharing!!!!
Hi! I just discovered your blog, and I LOVE this idea! I am using binders with my 2nd graders, but they aren't holding up like I wanted. I was just curious how yours were doing now that the year is halfway over? Thanks for sharing!! :)
cool books, I do something similiar with my kindergarteners called world folders. How do you do the barcode scan for your site, that is so cool!
I have been reading your blog during every spare moment for 2 days! I have gotten so many ideas, I can't wait to try them! You are awesome!
How do you set up your text messages without having parents reply? That's pretty cool!
I just posted about the text messages. It is called Remind 101!
What a great idea!!

THANK YOU! Your post served as my muse for my own binder system! I saw it months ago on Pinterest and just this week created my own! If you would like to see my middle school version, here is my blog about it: http://misslauraadventures.blogspot.com/2013/07/work-for-it.html
Thanks again!
I'm not a teacher, just a parent but I LOVE your spelling suggestions. I have a soon to be 4th grader who struggles with his spelling. I am using these ideas with him this year. Thanks for sharing :)
I know this post is a year old, but I would love to use your star binder cover if you are still sharing it. m2waldroptiffany@hotmail.com
Looks awesome, just one of my pet peeves: Under your newsletter Hanby Happenings Star Binder: Your student will be bringing home... (since this is for the parents to read I would change it to "your childwill bringing home...) not your student.
I am thinking about doing these binders this year. Thank you for sharing all of the things you are including in your binders.
